Setup guide

Get your gated group live in 5 minutes.

Practical steps for the most-asked questions, finding your TG user id, your group's chat id, and the contract addresses you need when setting gating rules.

Quick start

The five-minute path.

  1. 01

Subscribe (or start your free trial)

Connect a wallet at Subscribe. Hit Start trial for 7 days free, no card.

  2. 02

    Register your group on-chain

Go to My Groups → Register group. You'll need a display name and your group's TG chat id (see below).

  3. 03

Add the bot to your group as admin

Search for your bot's username in Telegram, add it to the group, then promote to admin with the 'Ban members' permission. Without that permission the bot can't kick anyone.

  4. 04

    Configure your gating rules

Back in the dashboard, open your group and hit Add rule. Pick a token / NFT / LP type, paste the contract address, set the threshold. See worked examples.

  5. 05

    That's it

The gating cron checks every member hourly. New joiners get a DM with a verification link. Wallets that fail get DM'd the reason and removed from the group. You don't lift a finger.

Telegram identity

Find your Telegram user ID

You usually don't need to type your user id manually , clicking the Verify wallet link the bot DMs you already includes it. But if you're entering it somewhere by hand, here's how to find it.

Easiest, ask the bot

DM the TokenGate bot and run /chatid. It replies with your user id (and, if you run it inside a group, the group's chat id too).

Alternative, third-party

DM @userinfobot on Telegram. It replies with your user id and a few profile fields. No setup, no install.

For group registration

Find your group's chat ID

Required when you register a group on the dashboard. Group ids are negative numbers for supergroups (the kind most token communities use) typically prefixed with -100. Always copy the leading minus.

Easiest, use our /chatid command

  1. Add the TokenGate bot to your group as a regular member (admin not yet required for this step)
  2. Type /chatid in the group
  3. The bot replies with the chat id, tap to copy, paste into the dashboard

Alternative, Telegram Web URL

Open the group in web.telegram.org. The URL contains the chat id at the end:
https://web.telegram.org/k/#-1001234567890
The number after # is your chat id (with minus). The -100 prefix is normal for supergroups.

Alternative @userinfobot

Add @userinfobot to the group, type any message, it replies with the chat id. Remove the bot after.
Don't use Telegram's short link (e.g. t.me/yourgroup). That's a username, not a chat id. The dashboard needs the numeric id.

For gating rules

Find a token contract address

When adding an ERC20 or NFT rule, you paste the contract address, the 0x… identifier of the token on its native chain.

  • Etherscan / BscScan / explorer: search the token symbol or project name. The top result is usually the official contract, verify by cross-checking the project's official website or social.
  • Project docs: almost every legitimate token publishes its contract on the official site under a "Contract" or "Token" section.
  • CoinGecko / CoinMarketCap: token detail pages list contract addresses per chain. Useful for multi-chain tokens.
Always verify the address from at least two sources. Scammers regularly deploy lookalike tokens with similar symbols. The bot will gate on whichever address you paste, wrong address = your group is gated on the wrong token.

For LP gating

Find a UniswapV2 pair / V3 pool address

LP rules need the pair contract (V2) or pool contract (V3) not the token itself. Different per DEX even on the same pair.

UniswapV2-style (PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, etc.)

  • Open the DEX's "info" / analytics site (e.g. pancakeswap.info, sushiswap.com/analytics)
  • Search the token, click the pool, copy the pair contract from the URL or the page header
  • Or: in the explorer, find the DEX factory contract → call read function getPair(tokenA, tokenB) with both token addresses

UniswapV3

  • Go to info.uniswap.org, search the token, pick the fee tier (usually 0.3% for token-token, 0.05% for stable pairs)
  • The pool address is in the URL and on the pool page
  • The dashboard's LP V3 rule needs the pool address, not the position-manager address. The bot enumerates positions automatically.

Bot setup

Add the bot as admin

The bot needs admin status with the "Ban members" permission to remove unqualified wallets, plus "Send messages" so it can post welcomes and verification prompts in-channel. Without these, the gating cron will queue kicks but the bot can't carry them out.

Search Telegram for @TokenGateGuardianBot and add that account to your group, then promote it to admin.

  1. In your group, open the member list and find the bot
  2. Tap the bot → Promote to admin
  3. Enable Ban members and Send messages. Leave the rest off.
  4. Save

Troubleshooting

Common issues.

A member got kicked but they say they hold the right amount
A few common reasons: their wallet binding may be stale (they connected with a different wallet last time), the gate is in USD-value mode and the price dropped below the threshold transiently, or you have a minimum holding-age requirement and they bought too recently. Ask them to re-verify the wallet they currently hold from. If the issue persists, contact support.
My group doesn't show in My Groups after registration
It can take a minute for the registration to be picked up. Refresh the page after about 30 seconds. If it still doesn't appear, contact support.
Wallet verification page shows an error
Try again, the link is regenerated each time. If the error mentions a signature mismatch, your wallet signed with a different address than the one connected. Reconnect the wallet and re-verify.
